Judging Process

Purpose

A rigorous, multi-stage process to ensure fairness, transparency, and credibility. All submissions are reviewed by a diverse panel of industry experts, academics, and sustainability leaders.

Judging Stages

Eligibility & Administrative Screening

  • Verification that all entries meet baseline eligibility criteria

  • Notification for correction of missing mandatory documentation or data

Preliminary Judging (Shortlisting)

  • A panel of subject-matter experts and sustainability consultants reviews entries

  • Standardized rubric scoring against published criteria

  • Top 5–8 entries per category shortlisted to maintain exclusivity

Finalist Deep-Dive & Interviews

  • Finalists pitch their initiative to the Grand Judging Panel (C-suite executives, NGO leaders, government representatives)

  • Q&A probes depth, measurable impact, scalability, and governance to substantiate written claims

  • Optional site visits or supplementary data verification for certain "Impact" or "Innovation" categories

Final Deliberation & Audit

  • Closed-door deliberation by the Grand Judging Panel

  • Cumulative scores from Stages 2 and 3 reviewed

  • Independent third-party audit (e.g., Big Four firm or recognized academic institution) verifies the scoring matrix

  • Winners selected on highest aggregate scores; Panel Chair holds the deciding vote in a tie

Judging Criteria (Weighted)

  • Impact & Measurability: 30%: Quantifiable results with baselines, targets, and actual figures (emissions reduced, water saved, people affected)

  • Innovation & Creativity: 25%: Originality of approach, technology, or business model — genuinely new, not a replication

  • Scalability & Replicability: 20%: Potential to expand within the organization or be adopted across Hong Kong and the GBA

  • Governance & Ethics: 15%: Alignment with UN SDGs, transparency, ethical leadership

  • Stakeholder Engagement: 10%: Active involvement and co-creation with employees, customers, and community

Detailed Criteria Descriptions

  1. Measurable Impact: clear, quantifiable, verifiable outcomes with baseline data, targets, and results

  2. Strategic Integration: sustainability embedded in core business strategy and governance, not a side project or PR exercise

  3. Innovation & Originality: novel approaches, technologies, models, or partnerships

  4. Leadership & Commitment: genuine top-management and board-level commitment, with resources and long-term vision

  5. Stakeholder Engagement: meaningful, inclusive collaboration and co-creation beyond mere consultation

  6. Transparency & Accountability: public reporting via recognized frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP); open about successes and failures; external assurance

  7. Replicability & Scalability: potential to scale or adapt; willingness to share knowledge with peers

  8. Long-Term Sustainability: built for resilience beyond initial funding, leadership, or pilot phase

  9. Ethical Integrity: no greenwashing or tokenism; sustainability never at the expense of human rights, labor standards, or community welfare

  10. Alignment with Global Goals: direct, evidenced contribution to UN SDGs or frameworks like the Paris Agreement or Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
